A day of rest

So yesterday we hung out here around the resort, starting with sleeping in which was great.  After we got up, we went down to the gift shop for a few and then the girls had an 11:45 appointment at the spa to get manicures.  Then we were hungry and went to the Hearth & Kettle restaurant here at the hotel which was pretty good.  I had the baked scrod with a baked potato and zucchini and of course started with a bowl of clam chowder that was good.  C had this little flatbread pizza that was really good.  After lunch we changed to our swimsuits and went to the wave pool for a few hours.  It's nice in there and the water slides are fast.  After that we went back to the room and rested and changed before heading to Hyannis.  We stopped at the JFK Memorial and Korean War Memorial and then drove around awhile looking for where the Kennedy compound is.  After finally seeing the location we went to main street Hyannis where we ended up eating dinner at Kian & Rylee's which was good.  I had the lobstrocity which was basically a lobster roll hoagie with fries.  They had really good fries and their clam chowder was better than the bowl I had earlier.  After that we walked around a bit, got a few t-shirts and then headed back to the hotel stopping to get a case of water bottles and a cup of coffee for C.  Today: off to whale watch in Provincetown.

And we're off

So today began our vacation to Cape Cod.  We got our early start as planned leaving the house around 5:15 am.  Around 8:30 to 9:00 we made a stop off the Jersey turnpike for breakfast and ate in a Bob Evans restaurant.  Our timing was good and we sat right down.  From there we switched drivers which worked in my favor since she ended up being the driver while we were in a backup from the time we got on the George Washington bridge going into New York city until we stopped at a rest area in CT.    I resumed driving and stayed driving until we finally stopped to eat dinner at a Friendly's in MA not far from Cape Cod.  After dinner and ice cream we made it to the Cape Codder resort in Hyannis.  Overall it seems like a nice enough place.  The room is clean and comfortable.  The internet is working as evidenced by this entry.  The kids played in the wave pool with their dad for about 45 minutes and had a fun time.  The only real negatives I have to report so far are the older furniture in our room has drawers wanting to fall out, the TV armoire has a door that can't open all the way since it hits the fridge and if we cared to use the balcony overlooking the fire pit area we'd definitely want to avoid the railing which feels like it would collapse if you put any weight on it and has gaps that her smallest granddaughter could probably roll right under.  Not so safe.  I really can't complain though.  Tired and ready for bed now.

The Journey Begins

With all of the trips I've taken over the years I thought it would be a good idea to start writing a blog about what I experienced while on the road.  This first entry marks the day before we head for a one week vacation up to Cape Cod, Massachusetts.  We picked up our minivan rental from Avis earlier (a red Chrysler Town & Country).  Her oldest daughter's family of four gets here tonight and then we set off on the road from VA to MA early tomorrow morning.  I expect the ride will take us about 9-10 hours plus a few stops for food and fuel.  Looking forward to the nice getaway from work.
